Tetrapanax Papyrifer Meifeng
A fabulously flamboyant Taiwanese shrub raised from seed collected from a colony of exceptionally large specimens, reaching up to 10 metres in height. The seed originates from Meifeng, a high-altitude, forested region of Taiwan known for its exposed conditions and cold, icy winters. This area has yielded valuable, hardy forms of many woody plants.
Meifeng, shows the same exceptional hardiness as previous high-altitude introductions from this area and has formed a specimen around 5 metres tall in cultivation, with enormous foliage measuring up to 1.5 metres across. New leaves emerge coated in a distinctive ginger-coloured indumentum of star-shaped (stellate) hairs, which should be handled with care as they may irritate the eyes and airways.
Propagation of this plant is prohibited under the Convention on Biological Diversity. We have permission to propagate limited numbers annually.
