Musa and Ensete together form the premier plant group for introducing bold, architectural “tropical drama” to temperate and subtropical gardens. Valued for their massive foliage, rapid growth, and exotic presence, they create an immediate impact. Although often mistaken for trees, they are giant herbaceous perennials, with stems (pseudostems) formed from tightly wrapped leaf petioles and capable of reaching over 3 metres (10 ft) tall in a single growing season.
