Ensete Gilletii aka Gillets Banana
This rare banana forms a slender pseudo stem to about 2 m tall with large narrow and arching leaves that become increasingly smaller as the plant sets out to flower.
Ensete Gilletii is widespread highlands of western tropical Africa, where it is said to grow in grasslands between 900 and 1100 m (2900 to 3600 ft.). Ensete Gilletii grows in a climate that is wet and tropical during the rainy season, while during the dry season it will lose all its leaves and die down to the large pseudo stem and starchy underground corm. In cultivation it has been virtually unknown and is difficult to grow from seed.
Not Hardy, like other Ensete they require winter protection.
