Tetrapanax Papyrifer Rex (Mulu Form)

The original seed was collected by Crûg Farm during a plant-hunting expedition to Taiwan funded by Powis Castle. Mulu Nursery later obtained this material and named it ‘Rex’ over 20 years ago, which is the source of the plants offered today.

Also known as the Chinese rice-paper plant, this highly exotic shrub creates a strong jungle effect with its enormous, jagged, palmate leaves, reaching up to 60 cm across.

Extremely fast growing in warm weather, it delivers a spectacular display throughout the growing season. It remains evergreen in milder regions but will be deciduous in colder areas, where a small amount of winter protection is recommended on small plants. Creamy white, globe-like flowers are produced on branching stems from late summer into autumn.
